International diplomat to speak at IWD

United States Consul General (Sydney), Ms Eileen Malloy, will speak at the University of Western Sydney on Friday, March 8, 2002 for International Women's Day at 4pm.

UWS staff will celebrate the day at a staff function at the Playhouse Theatre, Penrith Campus (Kingswood).

Consul General Malloy will speak about her career and aspirations as a senior female member of the United States consular service.

Consul General Malloy, who has a degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, USA, took up her Sydney post last year.

During her distinguished international diplomatic career, she served as Senior Policy Advisor on Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union to the United States Energy Secretary. Ms Malloy advised on matters concerning arms control, non-proliferation, the dismantling of Russian weapons of mass destruction, joint US-Russian scientific projects, as well as other energy and security matters.

As US Ambassador, she also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for working with the Polish Government to promote democracy in former Soviet Union countries.
