UWS played host to one of Canada's most respected diplomats this week with an official visit from the Hon David Kilgour, Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific).

Having only taken up his post in January this year, Mr Kilgour was visiting Australia for the first time to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Queensland.

Mr Kilgour visited UWS on the invitation of the University's Centre for Canadian Studies to discuss ways to further relations between Australian and Canadian universities.

"My first visit to Australia has been like visiting family and has reinforced my early impressions of the strong relationship between our two countries," said Mr Kilgour.

"It's been a great pleasure to visit UWS and particularly the first Canadian studies centre ever established at a university in Australia.

"My visit to Australia has been not only about sharing Canada's policies but also learning from Australia's academics, business people, officials and legislators on what works for Australia in Asia-Pacific and how we can enhance our co-operation."
