New Director for the Sydney Graduate School of Management

Date: 03/03/2002

Professor David Lamond has been appointed the inaugural Director of the Sydney Graduate School of Management (SGSM), University of Western Sydney, effective 7 January 2002.

Dr Lamond, a Professor of Management and expert in organisational behaviour and human resource management, brings considerable experience to the role after holding senior academic positions with both Macquarie Graduate School of Management and Swinbourne University's School of Business in Victoria.

Renowned for his pursuit of academic excellence, Dr Lamond is hoping to blend his experience in the teaching and administration of academic programs with his commitment to the development of the School in the region.

His vision is to build a business school in Western Sydney that is recognised for its practical approach to management education and for achieving results in the areas of teaching, research and consulting.

Experienced in the development of specific industry-based programs, Dr Lamond also hopes to work closely with the corporate sector and to strengthen SGSM's corporate links.

According to Dr Lamond, his new role will offer an exciting challenge. "The School is growing to meet the needs of local students as well as international students who are attracted to our fresh approach. The main challenge for me will be to ensure that our academic standards are maintained and that SGSM continues to build on its reputation for high quality, practical, management education."

Operating out of the University's campuses in western Sydney, the CBD and throughout Asia, SGSM has grown from strength to strength over the past two years and now rivals the more established business schools in the region in terms of enrolment numbers and programs offered. It offers a full suite of management education programs, ranging from the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration to the Doctor of Business Administration.
