Boys' night out with the stars

Date: 17/03/2009

Fathers and sons are invited to a 'Boy's Night Out' with the stars at the University of Western Sydney's Observatory on Saturday 21st March 2009.

The event, which aims to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy, will be held at the University's Penrith Campus from 7:30 to 9:30pm.

Dr Ragbir Bhathal, Director of the Observatory, says stargazing is an excellent way for sons and dads to spend quality time together.

"In today's busy world, parents have few opportunities to spend time with their children," says Dr Bhathal.

"I encourage fathers from all across Greater Western Sydney to use this event as an opportunity to spend a relaxing evening, bonding with their sons with the stars overhead."

Dr Bhathal says March is the best time of the year to see some wonderful celestial objects such as the Jewel Box, the Moon, the Orion constellation and Saturn - the Lord of the Rings.

At the Boy's Night Out, Dr Bhathal will give a talk on the possibility of there being life on Mars, drawing on some of the latest scientific findings.
