UWSCollege welcomed to Nirimba

Date: 27/03/2009

New teaching facilities for UWSCollege at the Nirimba Education Precinct will be officially opened on Friday 27 March by Federal Member for Chifley, The Honourable Roger Price MP.

UWSCollege, which is part of the University of Western Sydney, offers academic pathways to the University, continuing education and professional development programs for Australian and International students.

UWS Vice-Chancellor Professor Janice Reid says opening the new facility marks a significant milestone in the development of UWSCollege and provides further opportunities to grow the diverse programs on offer.

"The UWSCollege facility at Nirimba provides students - who may not have considered tertiary education - the academic skills and opportunities to reach their full potential," says Professor Reid.

Higher education has always been a passport to greater employment opportunity and financial security, and in difficult economic times, is even more important. UWSCollege opens up pathways to University for people of all ages and stages in their life.

The programs offered by UWSCollege are characterised by small tutorial sizes and additional support services including: monitoring and mentoring of students and classes to enhance study skills.

"Nirimba offers a unique environment where high schools, TAFE and now UWSCollege provide a variety of educational services to the community in one location," says Professor Reid.

"The opening of UWSCollege heralds more opportunities to bring together a diverse mix of local and international students in a supportive learning environment that will make tertiary study a rich and rewarding experience."

Professor Reid says the establishment of UWSCollege at Nirimba sends a clear signal to the community that UWS is committed to providing a wide range of opportunities for the people of Greater Western Sydney to access high quality tertiary education.

UWSCollege gives students a solid foundation prior to their university studies at UWS. Graduates of the UWSCollege Foundation program can proceed to the first year in Bachelor programs at UWS. Students successfully completing Diplomas at UWSCollege can proceed to the second year of their chosen undergraduate discipline at UWS.
