Senate Committee report on men's health: Experts available for comment

Date: 27/05/2009

The University of Western Sydney can offer expert comment on the release later this week of a report by the Senate Select Committee on Men's Health.

Professor John Macdonald and Mr Michael Woods, Co-directors of the UWS Men's Health Information & Resource Centre (MHIRC) believe the interest in men's health issues shown by the nation's law makers is an essential first step in addressing the current health inequalities experienced by males.

Professor Macdonald hopes other underlying factors of poor male health - such as the changing nature of work and family life - will also receive attention.

Professor Macdonald and colleagues in the MHIRC made a submission to the Senate Select Committee in February 2009. A copy of the Men's Health Information and Resource Centre submission can be downloaded from the Committee's site on the Australian Parliament House web page: http://www.aph.gov.au/Senate/committee/menshealth_ctte/submissions/submissions.htm

The Senate Select Committee on Men's Health is scheduled to present their findings by 30 May 2009.

The UWS MHIRC designs, develops and supports research and projects which contribute to the enhancement of the health and well-being of men and boys across every aspect of their lives from personal to family, work and the community.
