UWS helps parents understand the new uni admissions system
The recent nationwide changes to the university admission process may have left parents and students even more confused about the process of applying for a course. The University of Western Sydney is offering parents access to quality information to help them make informed choices about their child's future.
A free Parent Information Evening at the Parramatta campus will be held on Thursday 9 July, 2009. The evening will address considerations such as, the new Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), the pressure of picking a course, calculating the cost of a degree, applying for a place, and having a back-up-plan if students miss out.
The event will give parents of students in years 10 to 12 the chance to learn about UWS, including the range of courses on offer, academic entry requirements to UWS, and the services and facilities offered at the University's six teaching campuses.
Families in the Parramatta, Blacktown, the Hills District, Hawkesbury and Penrith areas are encouraged to attend.
University Admissions staff will run through entry requirements for various courses, how to apply through the Universities Admissions Centre, and the options available if students are unsuccessful in gaining a place.
The evening's main discussion session will also include information on advanced study, scholarship and leadership prospects. There will be a question and answer panel end at the end of the session.
Parents and guardians will also be able to talk one-on-one with University staff about the UWS experience and learn about the opportunities, services and information that is available to their children.
Students are more than welcome to attend the information evening with their parents.
The UWS Parent Information Evenings have proved popular in the past, so registrations are essential. For more information, contact the UWS Course Information Centre on 1300 897 669, email email@example.com or visit: http://www.uws.edu.au/parentinfo.
