More than 220 law delegates will converge at the 64th annual Australasian Law Teachers Association (ALTA) conference next week, to be hosted by the University of Western Sydney's School of Law.

Media are invited to attend the official opening at 9:00am on Monday 6 July at Rosehill Gardens Event Centre, Parramatta.

The conference will be officially opened by The Hon. Tony Whitlam QC, UWS acting Vice-Chancellor, Ms Rhonda Hawkins, Professor Michael McDaniel, Dean of Indigenous Education at UWS and Professor Michael Adams, Head of the UWS School of Law.

Professor Michael Adams, who is also President of ALTA and the 2009 Conference Chair, says it is with great pleasure that the UWS School of Law will host such an important conference.

"The 2009 ALTA Conference will gather the largest group of law educators throughout Australasia, and draw on the experiences of international law educators from the Pacific Islands, Malaysia, South Africa, the United Kingdom and America," says Professor Adams.

"This year's gathering will focus on central, emergent issues concerning law education, medico-legal concerns, corporate social responsibility and international and indigenous law, and will guide the direction of law education in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands."

Notable speakers presenting at the conference will include:

* Professor Cindy Schipani from University of Michigan, USA, discussing corporate social responsibility.

* Professor Takahashi from Meiji University, Japan, on issues surrounding international law.

* Dr Kamlesh Sharma, from the Australian Government initiative Aboriginal Hostels Limited, speaking about Indigenous governance.
