Vice-Chancellor opens first student accommodation on UWS Parramatta campus

Date: 22/07/2009

University of Western Sydney Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janice Reid AM, will officially open the University's $22 million, 343 bed student apartment complex on Thursday.

Developed and operated by leading student accommodation provider Campus Living Villages, in partnership with UWS, the new facility is the first on the Parramatta campus.

The stylish development brings student living to new heights with a range of furnished, self-contained apartments with full kitchens, private bedrooms, in-room heating and a flat screen TV in every living room.

Additional luxuries include a student lounge, TV room with Foxtel, e-library, a barbecue area and an on-site laundry.

"With rates from $168 per week, including utilities, rentals are easily comparable to accommodation in the area, with the added advantage of a convenient location, fully furnished apartments and modern facilities," says Sally Ward, UWS Village Manager.

"In addition, we offer an experience that rental properties just don't provide. We have lots of great events and activities and provide a supportive community with staff on-site 24 hours a day," she says.

Professor Janice Reid says, "The University of Western Sydney is delighted to offer the opportunity for a complete on-campus experience to our students. The University is very proud of this new purpose-built facility at our Parramatta campus which not only provides convenience, but greatly enhances campus life."

The student accommodation features the latest in sustainable designs, including solar heated hot water systems, rain water retention tanks and waste recycling.

According to Campus Living Villages CEO (Australia), Martin Earp, "living on campus is a great way to take advantage of opportunities to make friends and experience university, with the benefits of living in a secure and supportive environment."

"We are very excited to be working with the University of Western Sydney and look forward to a positive long term relationship and supporting their student accommodation needs," Mr Earp says.
