Degrees of Success on show at UWS Open Day 2009
The University of Western Sydney is busily preparing for one of the biggest events in its calendar, with thousands of prospective students and members of the community set to visit UWS Open Day 2009 at the Parramatta campus on Sunday 30 August, 9am-2pm.
UWS will be throwing open its doors to visitors and inviting them to learn more about the University's 'Degrees of Success' and its graduate success stories as part of this year's Open Day theme.
Open Day is an opportunity for students and their families to find out about the University's high-quality and career-ready courses, its world-class research, and cutting-edge equipment and teaching facilities across the UWS campuses.
It's also a chance meet one-on-one with academics, and talk with helpful staff and current UWS students about career and study choices, and get a taste for what university life is really like.
The day will be inspiring, fun and practical, with over 100 presentations, workshops and interactive demonstrations organised, such as the ever-popular UWS science magic show, the opportunity to see the law come to life in the University's Moot Court, and the chance to have a plaster cast applied by the University's medical students.
There will also be competitions, sporting activities, food tasting, games and musical entertainment.
A particular highlight is the 'Hawkesbury Lane' science display - a market-style fair that brings a taste of the Hawkesbury Campus to Parramatta, offering visitors regional produce, seedling giveaways, and a chance to get up close with some farmyard friends at the animal farm or see the reptile display.
All of the University's courses and disciplines will be represented in the one central location: medicine, education, law, business, creative and communication arts, health and nursing, science, engineering, the natural sciences such as agriculture, horticulture, animal science and food, information and communications technology, environment, policing and criminology, psychology, social sciences, arts, humanities and languages, forensic science, sports science, mathematics, and tourism.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to find out about UWS scholarships, postgraduate study and research, leadership programs for high achieving students, the University's application process, career and cooperative educational programs, sporting and social clubs, student exchange opportunities, and other student services.
Visitors can travel to Open Day 2009 by car or by train.
Train travellers are advised to alight at Parramatta Station and take the Argyle Street exit, where they will be directed to shuttle buses.
If travelling by car, parking is available off James Ruse Drive in Rosehill Racecourse car park. Shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes to Parramatta Campus.
