UWS throws its support behind 2009 Schools Spectacular

Date: 25/11/2009

The month of November signals the countdown to one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the school calendar - the Schools Spectacular - and the University of Western Sydney is again proud to support this showcase of talent across NSW public schools.

UWS is the Major Sponsor of the Schools Spectacular, which brings together some 3000 young singers, dancers and musicians together in a dazzling display of colour, movement and music inspired by Australian life.

The 2009 Schools Spectacular theme is 'Reaching Out', and involves over 250 schools from across regional, metropolitan and remote New South Wales.

Many of the participating schools in Schools Spectacular are from Greater Western Sydney.

UWS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janice Reid, says the University is delighted to support this special event.

"The Schools Spectacular is a wonderful showcase of the talent within our public schools. For many young people, it is an inspirational and exciting experience that has a profound impact on the rest of their lives," Professor Reid says.

"On behalf of the University community, I congratulate all the young performers taking part in this year's Schools Spectacular - we wish you the best of luck and we look forward to this year's extraordinary performances.

"We also congratulate all the dedicated teachers, principals, parents and other Schools Spectacular supporters who help make it all happen."

The University of Western Sydney is proud to be the Major Sponsor of the Schools Spectacular. UWS and the NSW Department of Education and Training share a common goal to provide high quality education to the young people of Greater Western Sydney.

The Schools Spectacular is held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
