Blacktown resident graduates with distinction
Blacktown resident Loretta Vella is celebrating her graduation from the University of Western Sydney.
Loretta was one of 3100 students who took part in the 14 graduation ceremonies held during October.
For Loretta, who graduated with a Master of Business in Marketing, the day was particularly memorable because she graduated with distinction.
"Sixteen years ago I dropped out of university and joined the workforce because of personal circumstances. I vowed to return when the time was right.
"My life-long dream has been fulfilled and I feel complete with what I've achieved,'' says Loretta.
Loretta says her achievements were possible through a flexible learning program at UWS where she could attend lectures and tutorials in the evenings while keeping her full-time job in the finance industry.
"I was able to juggle work, study and family commitments without having to compromise my quality of life because the University was so flexible, my employers helped pay 75 per cent towards my studies and my family was there all the way through.
"I was given the ideal learning environment where I could complement my studies with practical experiences.
"To top it off, I was lucky to receive a $1500 grant from the Blacktown City Council for my academic achievements,'' says Loretta.
The Multinational Relationship Marketing unit was the most interesting of her classes. It had 30 students from all parts of the globe, including four students from Australia.
"UWS provided such a fantastic learning environment and now I feel empowered to take my skills anywhere around the globe.''
